State Director Steps Down

Marion Edick, NY’s Director of Pupil Transportation Services, has announced her retirement effective December 30th.

During Marion’s tenure, we saw the implementation of the Physical Performance Tests for school bus drivers, development of programs funded by the $400,000 training fund, including Master Instructor trainings and continuation of the PDS program. We also saw the implementation of statutorily required training regarding special needs students (PJs law) and for school bus attendants and monitors.

We wish Marion all the best in her retirement and welcome her to join us for our conferences and events. She was a recipient of the Friend of NYAPT award and we appreciate all she has done ‘for the children’ and with our profession.

In a letter shared on December 30th, Marion wrote:

I am writing to inform you that, effective COB 12/30/11, I will be retired from NYS and the position of State Director of Pupil Transportation Services.

Throughout my thirty-seven year career in public service, I have had the privilege of knowing and serving with many wonderful and dedicated individuals; but none finer than those who have chosen to work in pupil transportation. Your passion and dedication for protecting our children is infectious, and it truly infected me. I will cherish the memory of those times and all we were able to accomplish together.

The next State Director has my sincerest best wishes. I know that she/he will have many knowledgeable and supportive individuals (Master Instructors, SBDI’s, Transportation Directors, Company Owners and School Business Officials) in school districts and in private enterprise, to join with in continuing service to the children and people of NYS.

I wish you and your families the very best in the future,

Marion Edick
